1936  Brewster
On occassion, we get to restore woodwork that comes from lesser known manufacturers who obviously put their mark on automtotive history.  Not only were these vehicles manufactured in very limited quantities, but many of them excelled in styling and performance.....and often, as a crowning touch, they included woodwork in their interiors !

Below is what the 1936 Brewster looked like.

One of its' most notable features, was its' "heart shaped" grille.

As you can see, there was an open driver cockpit, and an enclosed passenger compartment.

BOTH areas had wood appointments and it had wooden running boards as well.

Here you can see the woodwork in the 1936 Brewster driver cockpit.
Here you can see some of the woodwork that was in the 1936 Brewster passenger compartment.  Notice the "vanity" door in the rear quarter area.  There was one on each side.
1936  Brewster woodwork "Before" Restoration
Below are BEFORE pictures of one of the few sets of Brewster Woodwork we have ever received for restoration.  As you might guess...they are very rare and it is not often that a Brewster is restored.

As you can see above, the finish on this 1936 Brewster woodwork is looking really bad.

Here are the door cappings from the 1936 Brewster.
Here is a close-up of the 1936 Brewster door cappings and you can see that the finish shrunk and blistered everywhere.
The same thing was true with the dash cap.
Here is a close-up of the dash cap end.
One of the window trim strips from this 1936 Brewster had a long crack in it, which we will fix.

Here you can see how bad the finish had gotten on this 1936 Brewster.  These are some of the trim strips and our customer had removed the finish on one of them.  At that point, they decided it was best to send everything to us for restoration.

These are the vanity doors from the 1936 Brewster.  If you scroll back up, you can see them in the rear quarter area in the passenger compartment picture.

Here are the running boards from this 1936 Brewster.  The old finish has been stripped off in preparation for refinishing.

1936  Brewster woodwork "After" Restoration

Below are pictures of this set of 1936 Brewster woodwork AFTER we restored it.

Now you can see the beauty of this 1936 Brewster woodwork came alive After we restored it.

If you scroll back up, you will see how someone had previously refinished it with the wrong finish, AND they stained it so dark, that the wood grain was barely visible.

Here are the front door panels from the 1936 Brewster After we Restored them.
These are the front door cappings.

These are the longest trim panels from this 1936 Brewster.    You can see how beautiful they are After we restored them.

Now you can start to see how this 1936 Brewster woodwork should look like.

Our restoration brought out the warmth and beauty that only a superb wood restoration can do.

Here is a close up of these same parts.  Sorry but our camera's flash distored the colors - but you get the idea.
Once we removed all of the old finish and the "muddy" stain that was on these 1936 Brewster parts....we started to see how wonderful it was "going" to look.  We hope you agree that the end results speak for themselves.

Here is the end of the Dash Cap from this 1936 Brewster

The "masters" that originally made these parts, machined in some very beautiful details.

These trim panels had a very "soft" look and feel.  Scroll up and see what they looked like when we got them in for restoration.
Above and below, you can see how the grain pattern came to life in these close ups of these trim panels.
These panels from this 1936 Brewster had a gentle "J" shape on one end, which added a very beautiful touch.
Here you can see how the light reflects beautifully off these parts.  The woodwork in the 1936 Brewster was a "work of art".
These vanity doors we located in the upper rear quarter panel, where the roof sloped down.  Not only were they functional, but they added a very elegant look to the passenger area.

This is what the back of the vanity doors looked like.

Scroll back up and check out how terrible these vanity doors looked when we got them in for restoration !

Our customer had us refinish the running boards from his 1936 Brewster.  We are certain that when it comes to the look of the exterior, they will be the "icing on the cake"!
The original wood grain pattern and "character" lines of the running boards came to life when we restored them.
The running boards from this1936 Brewster were fabricated from solid timber.
Here you can see how the craftsmen that built these running boards, carefully shaped them.  We think that once these are bolted up to this 1936 Brewster, they will really be an "attention getter".
We aplogize for not knowing much about the years and models of  Brewster automobiles that may have come with woodwork...or what woodwork came in them.  So, if any of you Brewster "Experts" can provide us information and quality photos of Brewster woodwork, we can add them to this section.
